The Transcontinental Railroad was a 1,907 mile long track that extended from the Pacific coast of America to the existing east. Construction was between 1863 and 1869. The railroad was built from two sides that would meet in the middle of America when finished.
Construction
Thousands of people were needed to construct the railroad but the most important workers were the Chinese. The Americans were reluctant to hire the Chinese because of their small stature but did because they needed workers. It turned out that the Chinese were very hard working and efficient people. They were the backbone of the entire project.
